Tanuki Bob is a red wine made by the 4 Kilos winery in Felanitx, V.T. Majorca.
In 2006 Francesc Grimalt and Sergi Caballero founded the 4 Kilos winery. 4 Kilos, is the colloquial way of saying 4 million pesetas, this was the initial investment that Francesc and Sergio made to start the winery.
4 Kilos produces its wines in Felanitx, in the heart of the island of Mallorca. The climate here is mild Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and little rainfall. They practice rational agriculture, very respectful with the environment, and with minimal intervention. They use indigenous plant cover, with a large microbiological population in order to ensure good biodiversity in the vineyard.
With these conditions and the enormous knowledge that Francesc possesses of the indigenous varieties, they make wines with character and very authentic.
Tanuki Bob is a red wine made with Manto Negro and Syrah from vineyards located in clay-loam soils with the presence of ferric oxide, called “Call Vermell”.
After the manual harvest with a selection of grapes in the same vineyard, it ferments in 4,000-liter casks with indigenous yeasts. After the fermentation, it ages for 9 months in the same fudres and 9 months in stainless steel tanks. Before going to market it rests 6 months in the bottle.
Tasting notes
Tanuki Bob 2018 is a light, juicy wine with character. This vintage shows all the character of the Black Mantle with balance and freshness. Fresh red fruit aromas on the nose with mineral notes and on the palate it is direct and very fresh.
